Basel, 13 July 2005 - The Swiss Bankers Association, in conjunction with
an educational consortium, is launching the course of studies in Banking and Finance (German: Bildungsgang
Bank und Finanz HFBF). The course is to offer new opportunities for further training in banking in a
non-university context and aims to provide attractive and future-oriented training courses based on
all-Swiss standards for people who have completed basic training in banking. Courses are due to start
in 2006.
The new course of studies in Banking and Finance is being
launched by the Swiss Bankers Association (SBA) after getting the go-ahead from the SBA’s Board of Directors.
The College will offer attractive opportunities for further training to people who have completed basic
training in banking. Teaching will be carried out at existing institutions and will be standardised
across the country. It is intended that those who successfully complete the course will be awarded a
federally-recognised diploma according to the Vocational Training Act. Training will be designed to
allow students to acquire core skills across the entire spectrum of banking and finance. The new course
of studies is designed to be an alternative to university training and to enable students to raise their
banking and leadership skills to a very high level.
The SBA, which is
the sponsor of the new course, signed an agreement with a pan-Swiss educational consortium. This agreement
aims to establish pedagogical and professional standards for the college. This newly-formed educational
consortium, called the “AKAD Höhere Fachschule Banking & Finance AG“, consists of four long-established
institutions: the Kalaidos Bildungsgruppe Schweiz (AKAD Business); the Centro di Studi Bancari Lugano;
the IFBF Institut de formation bancaire et financière supérieure Lausanne; and the ISFB Institut Supérieure
de Formation Bancaire Genève. This cooperation ensures the availability of nationwide, standardised
further training in three national languages and courses will be offered in different parts of the country.
The
course of studies in Banking and Finance can be attended by people while in their current jobs and the
study programme lasts three years. Fees for the three-year programme will be around CHF 24,000. The
first courses are due to start in 2006 and applications for places can be made from September this year.
