Basel, 24 January 2003 - The Swiss Federal Banking Commission (Switzerland’s banking regulator) has approved the Swiss Bankers Association’s “Directives on the Independence of Financial Research” and has incorporated them into the body of laws and regulations that are checked by auditors when they inspect banks for compliance (Circular EBK-RS 96/3). The Directives were passed by the Swiss Bankers Association’s Board of Directors in early December 2002 and will enter into force on 1 July 2003.
These new SBA Directives will further enhance Switzerland’s good reputation as a financial centre (see our press release of 4 December 2002). The main aim of the Directives is to reduce and eliminate possible conflicts of interest in the field of financial research and analysis. The new Directives fulfil international standards and stand up favourably to any international comparison.
