Urs Roth to retire as CEO of the Swiss Bankers Association

Basel, 25 January 2010 – The Swiss Bankers Association's Board of Directors today acknowledged with regret the intention of Urs Roth to retire as Chief Executive Officer and thanked him for his total commitment to promoting the interests of the Swiss financial centre. The Swiss Bankers Association is the leading professional body representing the Swiss banking industry and Urs Roth, who is 63, has been its CEO since January 2001. He will officially step down on Swiss Bankers Day on 16 September 2010, a few months after reaching retirement age. During his period in office Urs Roth had three main focuses of activity. Firstly, under his leadership the SBA significantly expanded its international public affairs work and Urs Roth regularly led SBA delegations not only to traditional destinations such as Brussels, Berlin and Washington but also to up-and-coming Asian financial centres where he established valuable contacts. Secondly, he steered the SBA into a position in Switzerland where it became acknowledged as a serious and reliable negotiating partner which above all was always striving to find solutions to problems. Thirdly, he presided over the introduction of a management information system which now provides the SBA's Board of Directors and also its Executive Board with an optimal decision-making basis with regard to resource allocation and information management. SBA Chairman Patrick Odier paid tribute to Urs Roth, saying: "The Swiss financial centre owes a lot to Urs Roth. In years filled with challenges he led the SBA in a most competent and prudent manner and was always motivated to finding solutions to problems. He made a decisive contribution to getting the Swiss financial centre through the financial crisis so it could emerge in a strengthened position and go forward with a clear strategy."

The SBA's Board of Directors has started the search for a successor and will inform accordingly at the appropriate time.
