Swiss Bankers Day 2003 in Lucerne: Pierre Mirabaud confirmed as new Chairman of the Swiss Bankers Association
Basel, 19 September 2003 - The 90th General Assembly of the Swiss Bankers Associa-tion (SBA) took place today in Lucerne in the presence of over 500 bankers and guests from the world of economics, politics, the authorities, associations and the media.   SBA Chairman Georg F. Krayer also welcomed some 20 ambassadors.
In his speech - his last delivered as Chairman of the SBA - Georg F. Krayer gave a very personal assessment of his 11 years in office and attempted to evaluate the past from today’s perspective. He concluded his speech with an appeal to Swiss politicians to place national interests in the forefront and he called on banks as service providers to orient themselves even more according to the needs of their clients. Stephan Haeringer, Vice-Chairman of the SBA’s Board of Directors, thanked Georg F. Krayer for all the work he had done for the Swiss banking industry and his thanks were echoed in long ap-plause from all those present.
In statutory business attending member bankers confirmed Pierre Mirabaud’s election to the Board of Directors and also his election as Chairman of the SBA. In a short statement Pierre Mirabaud expressed his thanks for the trust which had been placed in him and promised to devote all his energies to promoting the interests of the Swiss banking industry.
Finally, in the traditional address on behalf of the Federal Council Federal Councillor Joseph Deiss delivered a speech entitled “Für einen starken Finanzplatz ohne politischen Heimatschutz”.
